Anyone can get Parkinson’s. It gets worse over time and there’s no cure. Yet. Funding research into the most promising treatments, we’re getting closer to a cure. Until then, we're improving life for people with Parkinson’s, and the people in their lives. Together we'll find a cure.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

A Big big thank you to all my sponsors, friends, family and patients, so far 12th October, the day after the race ( I finished in 2 hours 5 minutes and 2 seconds) I have achey legs but have raised almost £500 (with off-line sponsorship). So a big thanks, this was a brilliant race- Birmingham does this better than even the Great North Run!.

Up until now my running has usually had a bit of a political edge, but this one is different- this time its personal! I must have had over £250,000 in research funds from the Parkinson's Disease Society over the last 10 years for various projects to do with the genetics of Parkinson's Disease, which I have been researching since my PhD. In addition I run (excuse the pun) a course to train trainee neurologists and other doctors about Parkinson's Disease. However I have always felt that was.....work, so have never sought to raise money. This time is different, I want to raise an OBSCENE amount of cash for Parkinson's disease research. Why?

When last year my Dad (himself a doctor, now retired) developed Parkinson's disease, it seemed like it was payback time. I wouldn't be alive if it wasn't for my Dad's anaesthetic skills when I nearly gassed myself as a child. Likewise my Dad helped me tremendously by collecting control samples for my PhD project- funded in part through the Parkinson's Disease Society. I have signed up to donate my brain (when I've stopped using it!) to help Parkinson's disease research. Thus I do know just how expensive this kind of research is- more than most people realise!

Hence I really do want to raise an obscene amount of cash! Help me do it!
