Story

We did it - more than £26k raised for Shelter!

On a glorious London morning on October 6th, we ran and ran and then ran some more to finish the Royal Parks Half Marathon in an epic performance. Well done PEI runners - who knew we could go so fast and so far!

A big thank you to Shelter, who were great on the day, and a massive thank you to our many, many donors! On Friday 11 October we went past our £15k target, which means an additional £10,000 donation is on its way to us from our mystery donor so that we can pass it on to Shelter.

That's more than £26k raised in total! We're delighted, thrilled even, and also humbled by the enormous generousity of everyone who gave. Thank you very, very much indeed.

About Shelter:

Every 15 minutes a family is made homeless. Homelessness in Britain is at a five-year high. At a count taken last Christmas, the UK had 82,000 homeless children and many more adults.

To prevent this tragedy from getting worse, Shelter’s mission is to provide actionable advice to anyone facing the possibility of losing their homes, before the worst comes to worst.

The charity runs a sophisticated housing information service online, and offers face-to-face consultation across the UK. It also lobbies the government and local authorities to help drive legislative improvement and boost investment in the country’s insufficient housing stock, and to improve the lives of those that are housed badly or not all, with many potentially devastating effects on their well-being.

Homelessness can easily happen to anyone; all it may take is an unforeseen change in financial circumstance, and when it occurs, those affected need effective support straight away.

Having suffered a cut of its statutory funding at the hands of the government recently, Shelter now relies even more on donations than it did in the past, and Team PEI is proud to support it with its first ever group half marathon. For many of us it’s the first serious encounter with long-distance running, and we’re training hard to be ready on the day.
