I am doing this due to my dad having cancer, although he never went into a hospice, there was always that option for him before sadly passing in 1985. Also, in 2000 I did a charity drive around the country calling at 55 mail centres in 2 weeks, for a postman who had cancer and needed money to go to the USA for life saving treatment. This drive raised £13,500, unfortunately his condition had worsened and he was unable to fly. The monies raised plus the £13,500 was used to improve his quality of life before he passed away in 2001.
I do and have done many things, due to the fact that people know I wouldn’t say no! I’ve done the slip slide off the Transporter bridge in Middlesbrough for the Hospice, a parachute jump for the local children’s ward at my local hospital in Kent, the Shine marathon walk in Manchester for Cancer research and a bungee jump for the Anthony Nolan Trust. I’ve been to Romania 3 times to provide aid to orphanages.
When doing the sponsored drive, I will always remember what the person said to me who I was raising money for, when leaving on the Monday morning he phoned me, he was on his way for yet another operation, but he called me to thank me for what I was doing for him and wished me luck. I said there’s no need to thank me, I am doing this because if I was ever in a position where I needed help, I would hope there would be someone who would do the same as me!
So please donate whatever you can.
