Amnesty International UK is movement of ordinary people standing up for humanity and human rights. Some of our campaigns includes refugees, climate change, children's rights, women's rights, and conflict-affected countries. When we unite even the smallest acts of humanity make a difference.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit the JustGiving page for my charity single "Manifesto / Tell Me Lies".

Here's the deal:

Earlier this year I recorded a political protest song I wrote called Manifesto. The objective was to get it into the UK Top 40 for the week of the General Election and in doing so raise awareness of the campaign to get a None Of The Above box on the UK ballot paper (see below). I did this because our system of government is archaic and many people in the UK now demand REAL REFORM  and will not settle for the same old, undemocratic routine in five years time.

Well, with no radio or TV support it didn't make the Top 40 ... All proceeds were to go to Amnesty International in support of the massively important work they do in defending basic human rights around the world (of which the right to reject failing and inadequate systems of government is one). Sadly the record has not yet raised enough money to cover the costs of making it :(

BUT... it is still available to buy on i-Tunes etc and you can still donate direct to Amnesty International through this Just Giving page.

You can check out the video for MANIFESTO here:

I also got permission from the late Adrian Mitchell's widow to include my adaptation of his famous anti-war poem To Whom It May Concern (Remix) as the AA side. The track is called TELL ME LIES and can be heard here:

To buy this record is to:

a) donate to Amnesty International and support the hugely important work they do defending basic human rights around the world

b) support totally independent new music and

c) support the ongoing fight for democracy in the UK

ABOUT NOTA-UK

In 2005, Tony Blair's government were re-elected on the approval of only 18.5% of the UK population.

40% of the UK population didn't vote at all.

The notion of 'apathy' being the reason for this is a myth. Genuine 'apathy' only accounts for a tiny % of those who abstain.

Much more commonly, the reason for non-involvement in elections is the certain knowledge that our system of government is an impenetrable, undemocratic, two party "elective dictatorship"* that looks after corporate and establishment interests first and the people of the UK second.

(*elective dictatorship = a phrase coined by ex-chancellor Lord Hailsham in 1976 in relation to our system of government)

There is currently no 'None Of The Above' option on the UK ballot paper, despite recommendations of numerous official studies.

If there were one, and if only half of that abstaining 40% turned out and ticked it in a general election, by 2005 figures, it would secure the popular vote, thus invalidating the result and facilitating long overdue political and electoral reform towards a truly democratic system. This is the only way to achieve this.
