We are swimming on behalf of the The Royal Hospital of Neuro Disability.

 

The RHN cares for people who have brain damage or a disease affecting their brain. People come to the RHN for many reasons, from a stroke to a traffic accident, or a disease. The RHN provides services and therapies to ensure people with Neuro-disability can have the best quality of life possible.

 

There is something very different about the Royal Hospital for Neuro-Disability. They don’t just treat people with profound disabilities, they care for them as individuals, creating care plans that resonate with them on a personal level, and offering practical and emotional support to them and their families every step of their journey.

 

It provides dignity and care for all its patients and a sense of reassurance and calm for families and friends. The hospital is a charity based organisation, and it needs a lot of money each year, in excess of £2 million to help look after its residents.

 

For one of our swimmers, James Walker-Smith, his mother-in-law, Sonny Drane, was a long term patient there for four years following an accident which resulted in severe brain trauma. She required full time care which was delivered with relentless commitment and consideration from a world class team and facilities at the RHN. Sonny passed away peacefully on Tuesday 21st May and the family will always be grateful for the support and care provided by the RHN.
