Hello everyone,
In September 2010, I will be attempting to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. I will be going as part of a team of people on behalf of Velindre cancer fundraising.
At 5,892 metres (19,331 ft) Mount Kilimanjaro is the heighest peak on the continent of Africa. At such a high altitude, it poses a considerable challenge to even the fittest of walkers and climbers and I am under no illusion that it is going to be easy. My motivation is strong as this disease has affected immediate members of my family who I'm relieved to say have been treated and survived, but sadly last November our family lost 'Ieuan', my father in law, who bravely fought Pancreatic cancer for two and a half years at the age of 70.
So many families are affected by this silent killer, Ieuan had no idea he had a tumour on his Pancreas he never felt unwell. He may have been 70 but he was a fit and active man, who loved the outdoors and lived life to the full.
I want to donate the money I raise to go towards Pancreatic cancer. The life expectancy of a sufferer now is 3-5 years with major surgery and punishing chemotherapy treatment. The celebrity Patrick Swayze has just lost his battle at the age of 57 to Pancreatic cancer after an 18 month struggle.
Please help me in whatever way you can. Your donations can make a difference and will go towards the continuous research which is crucial for so many future generations.
