Pakistan Floods

Following the devestatiing Monsoon floods in Pakistan Muslim Charity launched immediate relief efforts to help the vicitms. Within a few days Muslim Charity began providing food bags, and safe drinking water in Balochistan.  As the floods spread made available temporary shelters and set up Mobile medical clinics to protect the most vulnerable from ills including Typhoid and Malaria. Some 7000 flood victims benefitted from Muslim Charity's early response

Muslim Charity helped establish the Ehsaas Partnership to deliver major projects. To date the Ehsaas partnership has worked across flood strike areas of the country to deliver Cooked Food, Food ration bags, Water tanks and water cans to benefit hundred of thousand victims. The Ehsaas partnership has also established water treatment plants and held a week long Eid Mela for flood victims in Multan.

In Shikarpur, Sindh, Muslim Charity has established a Model Camp in partnership with Pakistan Army and United Nation which caters for up to 8000 flood victims. This project estimated cost is Rs 28 million and Muslim Charity contributed Rs 7.8 million. This camp is designed to run for 3 months.

This camp is based on approximate of 1000 Shelter Tents, 2 Tent based common areas for women & children with better and healthy facilities, all common areas are powered with decent floor mat and pedestal fans, toys for the kids, books and colour pencils, etc. Each tent is setup for a family and facilitated with a floor mat, cooking utensils, cooking stove, other household items and 30kg bag of food items.

1 Tent based Masjid is also established in the camp, there is 24 hours medical facility with specialist maternity doctor and lady health visitor, 24 hours dedicated ambulance is available for patients, 24 hours electricity for lighting and fans.

The camp is secured and partly managed by Pakistan Army. The camp has one RO water filtration plant installed on site to provide clean and safe drinking water to the people, this plant have a capacity to supply thousands of little a day. The camp proper sanitation system and have separate toilets and shower facilities for men and women.

The camp has an information desk to report any incident or emergency. The camp is managed by Muslim Charity site manager and Pakistan Army Officer.

 

In Kot Addu, Punjab, the Ehsaas partnership along with the Government of Punjab has established a 60 bed field hospital bringing the medical expertise of King Edwards University, Mayo Hospital of Lahore to the devastated region. Muslim Charity has directly administered and managed the facility. The hospitals OPD (Out Patients Department) has an average turnover of around 1250 - 1500 daily patients, around 50 emergencies are dealt with over a rolling 24hour period and on average 7 to 10 cataract operations (eye operations) are performed daily. Designated Typhoid and Malaria clinic have been established to deal with the endemics. Two dedicated ambulances deal with medical referrals and emergencies. The hospital aims to host a complete modern operation, theatre as well as x-ray, ultrasound and an onsite laboratory to provide the flood victims with unprecedented local facilities for 6 months. This hospital was inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Punjab (Mian Mohammed Shahbaz Sharif)

For the rehabilitation phase the Muslim Charity with the support of its partner Ehsaas and generous donors is re-constructing over 1000 houses for flood victims, also re-constructing over 10 mosques, 3 Gyne hospitals, 10 primary schools and installing over 700 water hand pumps.

On the 20th of September, Muslim Charity started constructing the first Muslim Charity Modern Village in Kot Mithan, district Rajanpur, Punjab. Alhumdulillah, on the 02 October the village's first house was completed and flood victim widow Ameer Bibi was handed over the keys where she now lives with her 3 orphaned grand children. Full village with modern facilities is under construction, the village has a mosque, Children Park, shops, cattle shed and hygiene sewage and water system.
