Thank you for taking the time to visit my fundraising page and not laughing too much at the photo or the thought of me trekking, camping and climbing! I will be flying out to Lima on 17th Sept and after canoeing up the Amazon in my mosquito repellant clothing and spending a couple of nights in the jungle, this will be comparative luxury with a stay in a lodge complete with cold showers, I shall be setting off to Cusco from where I start the trek. I and my Peruvian porter - to carry Miss Rutter's tent, sleeping bag, mattress, food and first aid kit - will be walking the Inca trail for 3 days to arrive at the top of Machu Picchu on day 4. This will all be without the showers, loos or plug for the hairdryer normally associated with my holidays. Should I negotiate Dead Woman's Pass successfully on day 2 and not be airlifted from the mountain and then not catch swine flu on the plane my reward will be to return home and find that my lovely friends have either, dug deep into their pockets, or prayed hard for me so that this wonderful charity can reap some reward for my small efforts.
I am doing this now as 2009 is the 50th anniversary of Cruse Bereavement Care. We have 5500 volunteers who give their time freely to provide help and support to others at the most difficult time of their lives, when someone has died. But as with all charities we need funds to continue to recruit and train more volunteers, to administer and manage the organisation.
