Bupa Great South Run 2009 · 25 October 2009 ·

DELTA believes that the vast majority of deaf children can learn to listen and talk and that all parents of deaf children should be given this option. It's aim is to promote the education of hearing impaired children through their residual hearing capacity and naturally spoken language.

Story

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for coming to my Just Giving page.

I am running the Great South Run (10 miles....) this time, really challenging I how far I can get, in aid of Delta.

Delta, "Deaf Education Through Listening and Talking", is a charity based locally in Walton, but working nationally helping to support deaf children, their families and those around them, such as health professionals and teachers, who wish to follow an auditory oral route instead of signing alone.

The results of this method can be truly amazing - for those that have been brought up using the techniques that Delta is helping to teach, the disability becomes completely invisible, (I spent a good long while talking to someone like this, I hadn't the slightest inkling they were deaf and had been since early childhood until their father mentioned it!). Children can grow up going to mainstream schools becoming fully integrated members of society having completely normal lives.

Your contributions will aid Delta with their work which helps children with this disability to be seen as a child, not deaf and then as a child.

Thank you for you generosity!
