The BIG SLEEP-OUT · 13 February 2014

Glasgow City Mission is a Scottish Christian charity. Since 1826, it has been showing compassion to vulnerable people and fighting against poverty and disadvantage. They believe everyone that needs their help has real value and they want to support them on a journey of life transformation.

Story

In a moment of madness myself and seven colleagues from work are going to raise funds by sleeping out rough on Thursday 13 February.

Hymans Robertson actively supports charities local to each of its offices.  As well as making financial donations (that's the easy part) they actively encourage staff to work with the charities on a longterm basis to "partner" them and provide a reliable commitment.  Staff are given extra time off (or "volunteering days") to support their chosen charity.

I help with the Glasgow office's charity committee (called "Helping Hands") and have worked with the GCM for some time now - mostly by helping with sorting and storing of food donations at harvest time.  But the Mission's wider work is pretty amazing: they run food kitchens, support classes, and educational training...basically everything to get folks back on track again, including helping them into accommodation. So I thought I'd try and help them more.

£10 can provide a sleeping bag and also meals for a week, £15 can help fund counselling for a month, or £20 supply the food bank to feed a client handsomely......
