Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
They say that one in four of us will suffer a mental health problem at some point during our life.
I'm one, I've been depressed. The first time, I was sixteen when my parents separated, I wasn't allowed to tell anyone so I suffered in silence. The second time, I was in my twenties and I found the courage to ask for help. I suffered a loss and was grieving. I found it hard to do things I used to do and enjoyed doing.
"If you can't find your voice, cough, and it will come back again."
I started to do the things I loved doing. I talked about my loss. I shared and I got help, one step at a time. I found the kindness of others and the love and support of family, friends, colleagues and metal health wellbeing practitioners. I got back into walking, running, swimming, yoga and climbing, little by little. I remembered what was important to me and what made me happy.
"Don't worry, I'll save you from the swirl pool."
It's so much easier to do things with a little bit of help.
If you ever feel you have an eating problem; are conscious of your body image; are affected by the seasonal darkness; are obsessive and compulsive a little bit too much; find yourself stressed and anxious; have panic attacks; or are feeling depressed to the point they affect the way you feel, think, behave, eat and sleep - tell someone, talk about it. Go for a walk, do something to distract yourself, be active. That's your first step to getting better.
I'm running every day in January, not just for me but also so I can help you too, by raising awareness of mental health problems.
