Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit Stuart's JustGiving page.

Stuart was diagnosed with cancer of the tonsil in January 2007 and subsequently underwent complex surgery lasting over 14 hours to remove the tumours.  The treatment also involved many sessions of radiotherapy which left Stuart unable to eat his favourite pizzas or drink fizzy drinks!  Despite all the horrors of his treatment he remained stoical and was initially informed that he was cancer free in Autumn 2007 which was wonderful news.  He returned to part time work and looked forward to the next stage of his life.

Unfortunately secondary cancers appeared in the middle of 2008 around his spine and for the rest of his life he struggled with the pain and treatment of these tumours.  Just around Christmas 2009 the difficulties mounted and sadly he died on Saturday 13th February 2010 in his own room surrounded by all his own possessions with his family as he had wished.

We received great medical assistance but would like to recognise the particular help of the Macmillan Nurses - particularly Sandra Jackson at Mount Vernon Hospital and Anne Gates at King Edward VII.  Families in our position need more help of this type so please think about making a donation in memory of Stuart.
