Story
Ten months ago, I made the boldest decision of my life. I dropped the comforts of home and left for the island of Bohol, Philippines on a volunteering opportunity to provide some relief for islanders whose livelihoods were shaken by a magnitude 7.2 earthquake. Ten months later, I find myself back in the Philippines, on the island of Leyte, erecting transitional and temporary shelters to bring a sense of normalcy back to families who have been living in tents for the past eleven months. I have been trying my best to give updates via Facebook and Instagram about the sites currently active and the reach and presence that All Hands has in the Tacloban area. Something I learned from my experience in Bohol and relearned on an even greater scale in Leyte is that when you are in a privileged position, it is your duty to give back, whether it is through time, money, media exposure, you name it. I will be embracing the numbing heat of the Philippines and running 10k in the Typhoon Haiyan Memorial Run because people should never have to live in the conditions that I have witnessed. Lets put these people in permanent homes. Please donate and make me proud when I run this Sunday, October 26th.
