I'm doing a sponsored sky dive on the 9th May to raise money for the Foundation for Conductive Education, a charitable school for physically disabled children and adults. My friends son attends the school and she has organised a group of people to all take part in a sponsored skydive to help raise funds, not only to keep the school going, but also as a personal thank you for the help they have provided for their son Josh. Ive included below more details that Donna has circulated ...... both on Josh's personal story, and the fantastic work the school does. Please have a quick read and be sure in the fact that any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated and could not really go to a more worthwhile cause.
"Josh is a very happy and socilable 2 year old, very cheeky and always smiling and making us laugh. Josh was diagnosed with quadriplegic cerebral palsy when he was nine months old, due to complications at birth. We were told this was a possibility when he was just days old due the fact that he had lost oxygen during his delivery. As you can imagine, hearing the doctor tell you those words was the most difficult moment of our life. Me and Jason (hubby), felt like we were just left with the diagnosis to deal with ourselves, and we weren't given any proffessional help or support, and we felt very much on our own. Everyone kept saying that the first 2 years were crucial for Josh's development yet we were placed on waiting lists for almost everything. When Josh was nearly 1yr old we finally started receiving some help, but we still felt that he wasn't being pushed physically in the right direction.
A friend mentioned 'The National Institute of Conductive Education' which was a School for physically disabled children and adults. We visited the School in Moseley and loved what we saw and knew instantly that this was exactly what Josh needed. We were offered two sessions a week in the parent and child group.
The group is charity run and is free for parents and children under 3yrs. During the sessions Josh has to work really hard on physical tasks alonside other children in the group. We have been attending the group for over a year now and Josh has excelled in all areas of his divelopment but especially physically. Josh is now able to roll without help, walk with a walker and is just starting to sit for short periods of time unsupported.Through the group I have got to know other families who have children with similar disabilities as Josh, and this has been a huge support for me too.
The staff at the school have been fantastic and Erika, Josh's conductor, has been so supportive and helpful to both me and Josh. So to say thank you and to give something back to the school I decided to get a group of friends together and do a Skydive so we can raise as much money as possible to enble the group to continue and help other children and parents like us. Your money will help buy equipment, children's activities, pay staff wages and general maintenance.Well there's nothing more for me to really say except for please dig in your pockets and help by donating a little something for this very worthy charity :o)"
