Story
Hello all, thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am taking on two cycling challenges during August and September, London-Edinburgh-London in August and Pure Peak Grit in September.
I am looking to raise some much needed funds for the Bren Project, a great, independent Chester based charity.
Taking on these events is just me and my bike. I’m not new to these types of events, I’ve had a number of failures recently, but at 63yrs of age they don’t get any easier. These are my biggest challenges of the year and I’m eager to give them both a proper go.
Introduction to the events -
LEL 2022 (7th - 12th August)
London-Edinburgh-London is a 1,500km self supported cycle ride. The longest and hardest ride on UK’s Audax calendar and is only held every 4 years. With close to 1,500 riders this event is a true test of mental and physical resilience. I’ll be riding in the first group setting off at 5am on Sunday 7th August. Riders in this group have 100hrs to complete the full set route. This means my target finish time is 9am on Thursday 11th August.

Pure Peak Grit 2022 (3rd September)
On the 3rd September I’m also taking on the Pure Peak Grit cycling challenge. An event widely regarded as the hilliest long distance cycling event in the U.K. The route links together pretty much every categorised climb in the Peak District. The ride is 645kms long with over 13,500m of ascent. It includes at least 45 fearsome hills with gradients between 10-25%. I’ve joined the group looking to complete the ride in a very challenging 48hrs..
I’m going to be putting myself through the wringer on both these events. I know times are hard at the moment but if you do have a spare £ stashed away that you could donate, well that would be awesome and very much appreciated by all.
