Santander to Roscoff via the Pyrenees. · 17 August 2014

Rowcroft Hospice provides outstanding care and support to patients with life-limiting illnesses and their families across South Devon. We offer in-patient and outpatient services, as well as care and support in patients' homes. Care is provided free and funded in the main thanks to people like you!

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

This year Paul has passed the half century mark. Before silently easing into a life punctuated by unplanned naps, comfy slippers and a love of beige, he is determined to exhaust his remaining testosterone in a feat of unnecessary and foolhardy endurance.

Fred is 16 and has an excess of testosterone driven, blind enthusiasm and teenage confidence based on inexperience alone. With little consideration he has offered to join his father cycling  home to Torquay from Northern Spain.

Paul & Freddie hope to cycle (unsupported) from Santander to Roscoff via the Pyrenees , over 9 days in mid August. A distance of approximately 850 miles (if they do not get lost).

The ride will be completed with minimal luggage because they have no way of carrying it. Toothbrush,  underpants, spare inner tube and a few Euros.

We hope you feel able to sponsor us and help provide valuable support to Rowcroft hospice. Paul has worked for Rowcroft for more than 10 years and Freddie has recently started helping as a Rowcroft volunteer.

We cannot emphasise how little thought and planning is being done for this epic ride. By the finish a boy may turn into a man and a man may truly know he is past his prime. Expect a symbolic handing over of the silver back mantle on the first steepish climb.

We may try to find a pump and blow up the tyres before we set off from Torquay.

We hope to send daily updates of our experiences and saddle sores en route for your delight and amusement.
