MAG - Cycle Vietnam to Cambodia · 25 February 2010 ·

Every single day, 17 people are killed or injured because of landmines and other explosive weapons. Almost half of all civilian casualties are children. MAG finds and destroys these weapons to save lives and rebuild futures; helping people to grow crops, attend school and build homes.

Story

Sue & I first went to Vietnam & Cambodia in 2005 - we had just given up our jobs & were off round the world. We went back two years later to Laos. They are fantastic countries - warm, friendly people and beautiful scenery BUT you can't avoid the continuing damage done by the wars and people are still being maimed by landmines.

Sue wanted to do something to make a real difference in the lives of people in Cambodia, particularly the children who sold us endless bracelets and scarves with their clever wit and charm and we thought about joining an earlier charity fundraising event to build a school in Cambodia. Sue didn't think her construction skills were going to be good enough for that task and sadly she died in December 2008 and didn't get a chance to put her plans into action.

Sue's early death reminds us all that its too easy to put things off, so I'm doing this ride for MAG and people in SE Asia in her memory. At the end of February 2010 I'm going to be cycling over 250 miles over five days from Saigon in Vietnam to the Angkor Wat temples in Cambodia. I've started training and if you can't get hold of me, I'm probably out on my bike!

MAG is a world leading mine clearance charity and supporting their work is a real, practical way of reducing suffering and empowering people to rebuild their lives. To find out more about MAG's work go to www.maginternational.org
