RSI Action is the only national charity providing help, support and advice for repetitive strain injuries (RSI) in the UK. RSI Action is working to raise awareness of RSI conditions and aims to achieve major change in the way sufferers are diagnosed, treated and supported.

Story

Hello - I am an Repetative Strain Injury sufferer (RSI).

RSI is a condition caused by excessive use of a certain body part. For example: When I was 19, I excessively used my hands by working on computers & playing musical instruments excessively & for long periods of time, without taking proper breaks & seriously damaged my hands as a result.

So what happened to me? I lost all sensation in my hands except for permanent chronic painful pins & needles. I lost approx 90% movement in my hands so ended up having to use my body in unusual ways to do 'day to day' tasks (have you tried pushing down a door handle with your face? I can do this perfectly as I had no choice for 3 years - but you do get lots of cuts on your face as a result). I had to brush my teeth by jamming a toothbrush in a door & shaking my head violently as my hands didn't work. I didn't wear socks from age 19-21 at all.

Suicide became a serious option. Fortunately an intervention happened that ended that idea & I turned my life around - becoming a business owner by age 21. I realised I had to get smart & make money with 'my head', not 'my hands'.

* Anyway - rather than bore you with my personal story, the fact of the matter is: my life was hell as an RSI sufferer & it would have been nice if my ignorant Doctor accepted this as a medical condition. It would also have been nice if I could have found some support about RSI as it was little known about (it's becoming more common as computer use increases.)

The charity RSI Action help sufferers like I once was. They also increase awareness of the condition & liase with the medical profession to 'wake them up' to the fact that, yes, RSI is an 'ongoing' condition & it can ruin lives.

Please send as much money as you can to this charity - as it may stop somone from killing themselves (like I nearly did) due to the 'lack of awareness' & proper advice.

When you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

* Don't be financially shy - open your wallet & donate what you can.

Many thanks,

Paul Galbraith
