Story
I became the Chairman of the Suzy Lamplugh Trust last November, having been a trustee for 10 years.
As you may know, the Trust was set up by Diana and Paul Lamplugh in 1986, following the abduction (and likely murder) of their daughter Suzy, in order to promote and campaign for improved personal safety so that people could live their lives free from violence and aggression. In its 24 year history the Trust has been instrumental in the passing of the Protection from Harassment Act 1997 and legislation to licence mini-cabs, and it has taughts tens of thousands of people - including children, the elderly, and lone workers - how to keep themselves safe without needing to use self-defence techniques. It is a remarkable organisation which I am very proud to lead.
I last ran the London 10K run on my 50th birthday in 2007. Heaven knows why I have agreed to do it again. But, having said yes, I guess I have to carry it through. The thought that it'll make money for the Trust will help ease the pain a bit, I hope.
