I have done it! I was near the back of the field (very near in fact ) but chuffed I finished without stopping. I overtook some people, mainly those suffering from cramp or stopping for a call of nature. Unfortunately the latter runners generally caught and passed me again. But it doesn't matter. I have raised £521 for sense so I am really pleased. Thank you to everyone who sponsored me. (Of course it's not too late to still donate! )
So why did I I do this?
Although I have cycled for 22 years I have never been a runner but I promised myself that when I turned 50 I would run a half marathon. A friend from my cycle club told me he was running the Brentwood half marathon and that was the catalyst. I managed to enter online and then thought about what charity to run for. It was a no brainer because later that day I saw an advert for Sense on the TV featuring a little girl call Kiera. I don't mind admitting that the old eyes welled up, we take so much for granted and to see this little girl smile just because she could feel the breeze on her face or the touch of a feather, I knew then that I had to run for the charity 'SENSE.'
Why not go to the SENSE website and take a look at the advert: http://www.sense.org.uk/support/who_we_help/Kiera+PPC+campaign+page
In all I have run 220+ miles in the last 14 weeks, and had two visits to the osteopath to keep me going...not bad for a non-running (and not built for running) 50 year old.
Thank you.
