Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Paul & Peter's journey has began and you will be updated with their progress on this page...

6/11   Set off from Heathrow

7/11   It wasn't the best start as they were held up at Nairobi for 14 hours due to fog. However, their group are friendly and all are keen to get started.

8/11   Back on schedule. Walking through woods today & have just arrived at camp. Will be above tree line tomorrow.

In response to some enquiries, the time difference for Tanzania is +3:00 hrs

9 &10/11   Good days walking & a good night's sleep. Temperature has dropped & it rained last night. However they woke to a wonderful morning and their first sight of Kili.

11/11   Another good walk. Getting colder, but with fantastic views of Kili. Now up in the clouds (4,200m) and feeling good.

Although the signal keeps coming & going, you can attempt to email or text them

12/11   Up to 4,300m now. Weather taken a turn for the worse with rain all the previous night. More walking and acclimatizing before the big push for the summit over the next 2 days. Some of the group are suffering but P & P are OK.

14/11   Great but very tired - have been walking for 15 hours. Despite snow blizzards both P & P made it to the top, (YES!) but it was very hard going. Only 13 of the 32 made it!

WELL DONE BOYS!

15/11    Just arrived back in civilization after a very long day. A well deserved celebration meal tonight!

As we both approach the fine old age of 50 we have foolishly decided to mark the occasion by climbing Kilimanjaro. The climb will take upto 10 days but the most significant demand will be the months of training to get fit enough to do it, not to mention the sharing of a small 2 man tent in extreme weather conditions.

It seems that an increasing number of our friends, colleagues or their loved ones are afflicted by cancer and we've therefore decided to raise money for Cancer Research.

We have set ourselves the challenging target of raising £10,000 and we hope that you will feel able to support this very worthwhile cause.

Thank you in anticipation of your donation.
