Walking the Wall for MGA · 2 April 2013

We support people with myasthenia and their families, increase public and medical awareness of the condition and raise funds for research and support staff. Our aim is to make life easier for people with myasthenia and their families by providing information, advice and support.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Before telling my story, there is one person I have to 'Thank' first - and that's my sister Fiona, who is joining me on this venture. Without her support I would not have been doing this.

This is the reason we are doing it.

My partner Yvonne, and her sister Marie, were both diagnosed with a rare condition called Congenital Myasthenic Syndrome (CMS) back in February 2009.  This is a debilitating, degenerative and incurable neuromuscular disease.  Symptoms can include fluctuating fatigue, tiredness, cramps and muscle weakness on a daily basis.  Research is on-going, and medications which may help are still on a trial basis only.

When diagnosed Yvonne struggled with this, and there was a general lack of advice, support and guidance out there to help.  Since getting in touch with the MGA, she has found a support network giving that help and guidance which is helping her come to terms with this and stop her feeling isolated.

Any funds donated will help the MGA continue the research, and will make sure the support network will remain in place for all Myasthenic sufferers and their families.

'Walking the Wall' is just the beginning of my way of saying "Thankyou".  Starting on Sun 26th May, me and Fiona are walking the 84 miles from Bowness-on-Solway in the west to Wallsend in the east. We intend to complete this over 6 days and fully intend to enjoy the experience!
