We teach skills in transplantation to give hope to people with kidney failure

Story

Hi all

On Sunday the 8th August I completed the "Outlaw" Ironman in Nottingham. Originally I was entered into the Bolton Ironman one week earlier, however at an early stage on the bike stage I had a mechanical failure on the bike. I was delighted to be able to get a late entry into "The outlaw" it comprised of:

2.36 mile swim

112 mile cycle

26.2 mile run

So far I have been building up via various half marathons, open water swims, etc but at the end of May it became serious when I competed in the Beaver miidle distance triathlon which was just under half an ironman. So there is no turning back now and I am getting down to some serious training (between 16 and 20 hours a week)

I will be competing on behalf of TLC, the charity my wife Jennie set up 3 years ago. My hope is to support her in her amazing achievements in helping those in the developing world who suffer from fatal kidney disease.

Transplant Links (TLC) links volunteer medical teams in the UK with hospitals in developing countries, to help them acquire the skills to run living kidney transplant programmes within families - allowing one member of a family to give their kidney and save the life of their relative, often a child.
