Journey to the West Country · 13 March 2013

Every single day, 15 people are killed or injured because of landmines and other explosive weapons. Almost half of all civilian casualties are children. MAG finds and destroys these weapons to save lives and rebuild futures; helping people to grow crops, attend school and build homes.

Thank you so much for sharing, following and donating!

Thanks for visiting my page. I am cycling from Seoul, Korea to Cheltenham, England in aid of MAG. On this journey I will pass through China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran, Northern Iraq, Turkey and Europe. This isn't easy, so please give generously!

Here's a little more info on the charity I'm doing this for:

MAG saves lives and builds futures by working with others to reclaim land contaminated with the debris of conflict, to find ways to reduce the daily risk of death or injury for civilians, and to create safe and secure conditions for development free from armed violence. MAG’s work not only saves lives and limbs; it is a pre-requisite to any meaningful development because minefields and unexploded weapons deny communities access to land, water and infrastructure, and therefore keep people in poverty.

MAG’s work releases land for food production, increases safe access to vital resources like water, education and health services; and builds a better future for women, men and children alike. Therefore, MAG’s work directly contributes to the Millennium Development Goals. Unexploded weapons also hamper the work of governments, and relief and development agencies, preventing access to life-saving resources and further undermining development.

Another key thing that underpins all of MAG’s work is our community liaison teams. These are the eyes and ears of MAG and ensure that our resources are used effectively for the maximum benefit of the people we serve. Finally, we also employ local staff where possible, so that skills and knowledge are kept in-country. We have all female demining teams and teams including amputees too.
