Story

Many thanks for visiting our JustGiving site. On Saturday 16th Feb 2013 I'm aiming to complete the 300 challenge with four friends, James O'Driscoll, Simon Kiambi, Fred Wallis and George Onwin. My fellow team-mates and I want to raise money for Save the Children . I’ve personally been an active member of Save the Children since 1997, and they do fantastic work for struggling children all over the world.

In 2011, Save the Children launched No Child Born to Die, their biggest ever campaign to cut the number of children under the age of five from dying from easily preventable diseases such as pneumonia and diarrhoea.

In 2012, phase two of No Child Born to Die focused the campaign on nutrition with the report A Life Free from Hunger, highlighting the shocking fact that a child will die every four seconds, many of these deaths because children are either malnourished or hungry.

In the world’s poorest countries, children are dying - one every four seconds - a rate too awful to think about. Save the Children wants to end this tragedy.

Save the Children works in more than 120 countries. We save children's lives. We fight for their rights. We help them fulfil their potential. www.savethechildren.org.uk

In advance of the challenge, i'd like to make a special mention to James O'Driscoll. I met him in the summer of 2012, when I joined Virgin Active gym (Bromley) and booked in for a few personal training sessions. That's when I met James and found out he is not your average Personal Trainer. He lost his sight in both eyes suddenly at the age of 26 and then went on to become the first ever qualified blind PT. If you'd like to read a bit more about James' story please see the Mens Health article attached. He has been a true inspiration to me and I'm delighted he will be doing the challenge along side me and the boys:

As for the challenge itself, '300' the movie is a favourite of mine and this was the workout used by the cast to get in shape. It's not for the faint hearted and we have all been training hard to make sure we can complete it. Here is the link with more details about what it actually entails.

Updates 3

Every year, eight million children under the age of five are lost to diseases like pneumonia and diarrhoea. Eight million children never get the chance to go to school, or play with friends, or grow up and have children of their own. Most of the deaths are preventable.

ps - The training has continued to be brutal .... well atleast for some of us. Fred on the otherhand has now developed into a 300 machine, and is doing one arm pull ups !!

Dear All, Thanks so much for the donations thus far, it is greatly appreciated and I know the money is much needed with 'Save the Children'. I'll update you at the end of the challenge and let you know how the money will be used by the charity,
