My incredible sister, Katie passed away on August 3rd 2017 after spending much of her final weeks at St. Benedict's Hospice, Sunderland. Katie was an incredible person; she battled through over 100 operations during her 31 years and met every one of them with a shrug and a smile, be it brain surgery or a full body plaster cast. She was an inspiration to so many, a generous, funny, intelligent, caring and compassionate human being who lit up every room with her smile. She was the wildest of wild-flowers.
The treatment, support and palliative care that she received at St. Benedict's was exceptional. The staff there are amazing people, true heroes. I'm running the Great North Run as a small gesture to say thanks for making her so comfortable in her final days. Rest in peace, Katie.
