Lands End to John O'Groats  June 2010 we ended up cycling about 900 miles with 140 mile day at the end.

Thursday 3 June  Lands End to Wadebridge about 75 miles – hilly route - felt tired after the drive down

Friday 4  June Wadebridge to .  Right Peddle fell off in Bow – got new peddles from Jay in Tiverton.  Reached Rumwell Manor about 8pm.  94 miles last 20 miles at over 20 mph.

Saturday 5 June Taunton to .  Met Alasdair Wild in Highbridge.  Left Crank became loose on the final five miles, borrowed a 14mm socket from a Car wash to fix. A pleasant 100 miles with a very nice hill up out of Monmouth.

Sunday 6 June to – crank fell off again got it fixed at Beeston Boat yard – problem is lack of bike shops open on route.

Monday 7 June – to a nice 100 miles no problems. Bit of  a long hill in the Lake district. Met up with Neil in .

Tuesday 8 June Followed the A7 from Carlisle to got a new crank on route, on a nic day this would be a great ride. Light rain all day – stopped after 110 miles in  .  Followed a cycle path from the to that added 5 pointless miles in the rain.

Wednesday 9 June – Heavy Rain and wind reduce speed to 8 mph for the first couple of hours.  Chris had a static In the Highlands the rain stopped but the wind against us increased and reduce speed to 7 mph peddling downhill. Stopped at 9pm in Aviemore after a very hard 110 miles.

Thursday 10 June – Early start 30 miles and Breakfast in at 8.30 am- Chris had to get shoes fixed.  Left about 1030 am.  Weather was better and we made good time. Had to stop for an hour to sort out the train home. Speed built up during the day average speed for the afternoon was 17 mph.  140 miles got to Wick 8.20 pm.

Friday 11 June – up at 3am left hotel at 3.30 and cycled 17 miles to John O’Groats got there at 4.45 photo and cycled 17 miles back to hotel about 6.20 am ready for breakfast.

Tips - good mits, good cycling shorts, shoes you can walk in, new brake shoes - they get a bit of wear, new tires - we had no flats which was just as well as Chris waited until we got on the train home to tell me he was not able to get his tyre off last time he got a flat. Take good waterproofs we never worn them but if you have a problem in the Highlands and have to walk or wait better to be safe. Do not use a saddle youhave not spent at least 3 hours in before the ride.  Drink lots of water or Isotonic drinks.

I found a bar bag very useful for camera, lock, snacks and bike lock.

We met a man who had a ripped tyre and another who had broken his rear gear changer and was now on a single gear.

Thanks to all the people that have supported and help us.
