A Message from Laurie & Debbie Wiseman:
Our father died from Pulmonary Fibrosis in March 2011. It is a devastating disease, with no cure. It causes scarring of the lung tissue, leading to increasing breathlessness; most victims end up on 24-hour oxygen, with the simplest of tasks beyond them.
Our Dad was under the care of a most wonderful consultant at Barnet General, Dr Rama Vancheeswaran, who is a world leader in this field.
She has a current urgent and simple need for her patients. Dr Vancheeswaran treats around 600 sufferers from Pulmonary Fibrosis. For many of these people, triggers in their environment, such as dust or pollution, can worsen their condition.
The council can conduct environmental checks on their homes, which can eliminate these triggers or suggest solutions. It costs around £80 per check, and is not covered by the NHS. But for these people, a simple check can mean the difference between a life worth living and another day of breathless inactivity.
Our aim is simple: to raise £10,000 to help at least 100 people. In this way, we can begin to help a significant number of victims of Pulmonary Fibrosis.
We could have gone up a mountain or walked across a continent to raise money. The trouble is that the need is now and their situation can't wait. Hence this direct appeal.
And, in deference to our Dad, he was a very direct and forthright man. He would have been touched by a simple solution for a pressing problem.
In his memory, please help others alleviate the symptoms of this appalling condition.
So, give as much as you can - as we aim to help at least 100 people with your very kind donations.
Thank you very much for your kindness and support.
