Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My name is Paul Harris and I work as an evening filing clerk at Morriston Hospital's medical records department.
In February 2014 I, along with a number of others, will be climbing Kilimanjaro to raise funds for Golau Cancer Foundation based in Singleton Hospital in Swansea. The group is mostly made up of employees of Abertawe Bro Morgannwg Health Board and includes a doctor and pharmacist, so we should be in good hands if altitude sickness kicks in.
I live in Cwmllynfell which is about halfway up The Black Mountain on the edge of the Brecon Beacons about 15 miles north of Swansea. The highest point on The Black Mountain is 802m. Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa, and is the highest free-standing mountain in the world at 5,895 metres above sea level at the Uhuru Peak/Kibo Peak. That’s nearly 7½ times higher. I just looked that up as I'm writing this and I can't believe it!
As part of my fundraising for this I will be walking from the Liberty Stadium in Swansea to the City of Cardiff Stadium with three friends and fellow Swansea City supporters. The route is just over 40 miles and we hope to complete it over the 10/11th of August, just before the 2013/14 Premier League season kicks off the following week. We're hoping that it will help to raise funds and also build relations between the two clubs and sets of supporters.
I've got a couple of other things in mind, like bingo/race nights and cake sales but nothing final yet, so I will be updating these details as and when.
Please consider supporting us and Golau with as much financial help as you can but also, as the charity is so new, even raising awareness of it with friends and family and giving it as much publicity as possible will all help.
Thank you and don't forget to 'gift aid' as it really makes a difference.
