Brooke relieves the suffering of hundreds of thousands of horses, donkeys and mules working tirelessly for the world's poorest communities. Its dedicated local vets and support teams provide free veterinary care, education and training to the heart of communities in parts of the Middle East, Africa, South America and Asia.

The Brooke Ride Of A Lifetime-Rajasthan 18-28th Oct. 2007
Being a nation of animal lovers, it is heartbreaking to see the cruelty and the pain and suffering they have to endure whilst working. In Ethiopia the donkeys have to carry loads of sharp corrugated iron sheets for hours in the blistering heat.
In Afghanistan the horses toil endlessly dragging out cart loads of sand and gravel sometimes standing for hours in water, resulting in pneumonia and skin and foot conditions.
In India mules are left harnessed whilst being unloaded, as the carts are unloaded the terrified animals would literally hang in the air. Now thanks to the Brooke their suffering has eased.
And now a bit about me. I started riding at the ripe old age of 12, and since then have spent all my life around horses, mainly training race-horses and race riding myself.
Two years ago i gave up riding due to too many aches and pains and decided that as I was still in one piece, it was time to hang up my boots.-----that was until I heard about 'The Brooke ride of a Lifetime '!.
So this will definitely be my last riding challenge--from nothing for 2 years to 6hours a day in the saddle--ouch! (must remember to take my seat -saver and plenty of big plasters).
And so it is with fear and trepidation that I start riding and getting fit again with my partner in crime Birdie a 17hh bay mare who also has not done anything for two years either!!!! Wish me luck.
