Sponsored ride on the Pennine way · 23 April 2013

We’re Mind, the mental health charity, working across England & Wales. We believe no one should face a mental health problem alone. We’re here for you. Whether you’re stressed, depressed or in crisis. We’ll listen, give support & advice, & fight your corner. Thanks for fundraising for national Mind.

Story

Claire, Jen, Roz, Dawn, Nicky & Andy are riding the 47 mile Mary Towneley loop on the Pennine way to raise funds for The Equine Grass Sickness Fund and Mind in memory of two friends lost last year, superstar Oscar to Grass sickness and one of the warmest, kindest, fun, intelligent people I was privileged to know, she is missed so very much by all who knew her.

If you are kind enough to sponsor us can you chose either charity or split your donation between both this page and the grass sickness one which can be found here: http://www.justgiving.com/grass

Riding the Mary Towneley Loop: Generally this Loop is reasonably demanding because of the way it dips into and out of the steep sided South Pennine valleys.

There are a variety of tracks - grass gravel, grass, aggregate, stone causeway, stone setts as well as some short sections of tarmac.  The going is not fast for horses because of the amount of stone track but there are some grassy sections too!

Particular care should be taken on the approaches to the A6033 crossing near Bottomley where the track either side of the road is very steep. Between the road crossing and Summit care is required as the route passes along Reddyshore Scout where there is a sheer drop (now fenced) on the east side.

We will be staying overnight along the route and will take lots of photos and send updates!
