Hi, and thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
We are a group of 7 friends (Alan Hislop, Donald Patterson, James Watson, Martin Gibbons, Rachael Davies, Sam Ewens, Will Bentall) who will be completing the National Three Peaks Challenge, over the weekend of 25-26 June 2011, to raise money for Dumfries and Galloway Endowment Fund.
Rachael's dad sadly passed away in December 2010 after a 2 year battle from stomach cancer. He received amazing care and support at the Dumfries Oncology Unit, which made the treatment more bearable.
The funds raised will be designated for the Oncology department, and will be unrestricted so that they can be used for the purchase of equipment, patient comforts and amenities, research and training together with the provision of extra facilities and opportunities not available from government funding.
The National Three Peaks Challenge is a mountain-endurance challenge in which we will attempt to climb the highest peaks of each of the island's three countries within 24 hours! The mountains climbed, in order of elevation, are Ben Nevis in Scotland (4,409 ft), Scafell Pike in North-Western England(3,209 ft), and Snowdon in North Wales (3,560 ft). In all the challenge involves some 26 miles of ascent and descent, with total travel approaching 475 miles.
We are all currently training hard for the challenge and we have arranged a number of weekend trips to various mountains/hills to prepare for it as much as possible. The training will hopefully ease the muscle aches and pain, but nothing will be able to prepare us for the sleep deprivation!
We would really appreciate your support in raising money for this amazing charity so that other cancer sufferers receive the best care and support possible.
