My story

BRIGHTON HALF MARATHON 19th FEBRUARY

Just a quick update. I managed to complete the run last Sunday (finally). Didn't do the time that I would have liked, but I was a little bit under the weather. Have got a few more donations to collect but should be close to 100% of the target, so thanks again to everyone who has donated. We will be getting the equipment for the Cardiac Rehab Unit in the next couple of weeks, once all the money has been collected. I will put a final update on here once that is done.

I have now entered the Brighton Half Marathon on 19th February. Thanks to everyone who has sponsored me so far, hopefully this time I will actually be able to do it.

** I have torn a muscle in my thigh and will not be able to run in this event I am hoping to enter another race early in the new year. I will update this page with details when I have them**

I am running a half marathon in London on September 25 to raise money for the Cardiac Rehabilitation Unit at Chase Farm Hospital in Enfield.

I had heart surgery two years ago to replace a faulty aortic valve. As part of the recovery I attended Cardiac rehab at Chase Farm. This programme also runs at Barnet hospital as part of the Barnet and Chase Farm NHS Trust. It is an 8 week course run by a team of nurses, with support from fitness instructors, physiotherapists, dieticians and psychologists, involving aerobic exercise sessions, advice on diet, stress management and education on cardiac health care.

I got a great deal out of these sessions. Apart from the weekly exercise classes, part of the rehab programme was to walk for a few minutes each day gradually building up the time and pace each week. I carried on doing this after the 8 weeks, graduated to jogging and am now running on a regular basis.

I can’t speak highly enough of the work of this team, not just for myself, but for a lot of other people who attend these sessions and have benefited from them.

I am trying to raise £800 to buy a laptop and projector to help with the education and advice sessions that they run. This equipment would help to improve the flexibility and quality of the presentations.
