Story
Well, we DID IT !! The whole team of 7 with our amazing guides made it to the top as dawn broke. The reward ....an amazing sunrise with great visibility of many miles.
The final ascent commenced 11.10 pm (Wed 2nd Feb) . We reached Stella Point around 6.30am ish and summit 45mins later. That 1200m od ascent was frankly brutal. My strategy was to reminisce in detail, family holidays from packing to end of the holiday ;Anything to keep my mind off staring at headlamped boots for 8+hrs !!
The cold prevented us resting for too long. My sustenance ? Never mind-short boosting sugary gels and bars- I stuck to slow release Garibaldis and Fig Rolls !! Also made me drink more which isn't easy when your camel pak freezes at 5000mtrs. ( Decanted remainder into a bottle )
Descent took 3hrs back to Base Camp (Barafu ) 1.5hr rest, pached up and on again to descend another 300mtrs to Millenium fore a well earned Coka Cola and then a couple of hours further descent to Mweke Hut.
