I took up running to lose weight, well that failed so I thought I’d better try and raise some money for good causes and gain some redemption!

I am supporting ADDISS because of the impact I have seen at close quarters (in my own family) that Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) can cause.

To give a brief description on how ADHD can affect families I tend to reminisce about 1 occasion in particular.

On this particular occasion we (my wife and I) were trying to lay some boundaries that my stepdaughter decided not to adhere to.  Promptly deciding to escape the situation and realising that we were between her and the door, she decided she needed to jump out of the 1st floor window which she promptly did.

Now, you may think that the point is that she decided to jump out of the window without thinking of the consequences which could possibly demonstrate ADHD behaviour?  Well, no, actually the clincher was that she jumped without thinking of the next step ie how to land, so she had jumped headfirst!!  My wife managed to grab hold of her ankles before they disappeared and was left holding her upside-down out the first floor window in order to prevent her landing headfirst!

This is a typical every day experience that many parents have to deal with if they have children with severe ADHD.
