Hi Everybody! Thanks so much for taking the time to check out my page.

On December 24th, 2011, I will be jumping out of an aeroplane from 10,000 feet. Fortunately, I will have a man with a parachute strapped to my back, so I should be fine. However, I am still DEATHLY AFRAID of heights, so it should prove 'interesting'.

Why do this to myself? Well, as much as I am afraid of heights, I am much more afraid of living in a world in which more than 2 million women in developing countries suffer the pain, shame and isolation of obstetric fistulas.

An obstetric fistula is a rupture that forms between either the rectum and vagina or the bladder and vagina after severe or failed childbirth. As well as suffering the daily pain and discomfort of this condition, many women become isolated from their families and communities because they are considered 'unclean'. Often, the social isolation associated with obstetric fistulas causes women suffering from this condition to turn to commercial sex work or begging. Suicide and attempted suicide is also extremely common.

By supporting Hamlin Fistula, you are supporting the fantastic work of the Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital in Ethiopia. This hospital was established by the visionary gynaecologist Dr Catherine Hamlin and has helped to rescue over 30,000 women from the plight of obstetric fisulas. Of course, the more money the hospital has, the more women it can help. Please give generously and help to relieve the needless suffering caused by this condition!!

:-) Pete
