Celebrating a London Bus route centenary needed a special event and 'walking the 38' to raise money for charity seemed the ideal choice so having laid down the challenge I will lead by example. I would like to raise at least £500 and will walk the route as many times as necessary to do just that!

My wife kindly accompanied me on my first trip today leaving Victoria just after 1pm and reaching Clapton Pond about 4pm but that did include a lunch stop and a drink in 'Kings' Essex Road!

You see and hear so much more walking the route; the marvellous musical features decorating Fortnum & Mason, the facade of the Red Lion Theatre, Islington but the highlight was hearing wedding bells as we walked through Hackney and stopping to watch the congregation outside St Johns Church. We even had enough time to dodge back from Clapton Pond to The Windsor Castle pub in Lower Clapton Road to watch the last half hour of the Championship play-off final. Good luck to the Hammers but they could only draw twice with Leeds this season!
