This fund is been set up in memory of Dr Fiona Dolan, formerly specialist registrar in Ophthalmology, Glasgow who died, aged 36. It funds a cause close to Fiona's heart - enabling Ophthalmology colleagues to perform cataract operations and restore sight to people of all ages in developing countries.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I hope to raise as much money as possible for the Fiona Dolan Fund. The fund supports genuinely life-changing work : eye operations in developing countries, mainly in Africa. The fund was set up by Fiona's husband Steven in her memory, after she died, aged just 36, from a brain tumour in 2007. Their children are the same ages as my own: 13, 10 and 7.

Please give as much as you can - this is a small charity, but one which really impacts on people's lives, as the trip reports on the fund's website make abundantly clear.

My challenge this time (after running 2 half marathons for the Fund in 2009) is to go much further, still under my own steam ... but on two wheels. Between 20 and 29 May, I'll be part of a group cycling along Scotland's west and north coasts; up to 12 will be part of the group, but only 5 of us are daft enough to go the whole way. Starting on Arran, we plan to pedal via Mull of Kintyre, Isla, Jura, Mull, Ardnamurchan, Skye, Harris & Lewis, via Cape Wrath, to Thurso.

All going well, around 500 miles in 9 days. This will be tough - I've never spent more than one day in the saddle before. I must thank my cousin Mark for arranging all the logistics.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast (less than one minute, if you're registered) and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Thanks for your support - every little helps!

Peter.
