The Aspire Channel Swim 2009 · 6 December 2009 ·

Every two hours someone in the UK is paralysed by a spinal cord injury. It can happen to anyone at any time and no one is prepared for how it will change their life. Aspire is a national charity that provides practical help, supporting spinal cord injured people from injury to independence.

Story

Many, many, thanks to all my family & friends who have supported me over the past 12 weeks with this Charity Swimming Challenge.  I'm delighted to say that along with my aqua buddy Ann (from Tower House), I've made it to the shores of France intact (22 long & arduous miles after leaving Dover on September 14th), by splashing around in the pool at the Bank of England for a final few lengths on December 2nd.

It's been a really positive experience, helped me to get much fitter, and through the combined generosity of so many people I've managed to raise £550 for 'ASPIRE UK'  with a combination of on-line & off-line donations.  All the money raised will go towards helping improve the lives of people suffering from spinal injuries.

Signing off, one very tired swimmer!

:-)  Peter
