I completed the Coast to Coast Walk from St Bees to Robin Hood's Bay, 192 miles with a friend - Paul Longland.  This was a wonderful experience.  The average daily walk was about 14.5 miles.  The longest section - 23 miles was from Richmond to Ingleby Cross in Yorkshire.  According to the guide books we climbed 24,000 feet and descended about the same walking through the Lake District, The Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors. The walk is both challenging and beautiful.

We met people from all over the world who had come to walk the Coast to Coast. Meeting and talking to people was one of the highlights of the walk.

Our last night was at Intake Farm just outside Littlebeck.   The farmers wife, Judith, cooked for ten of us.  A splendid meal with friendly people.  We sat chatting until time for bed.  Next morning I was asked by the farmer to help with his cows before setting off for the last leg.  For me this is one memory that sums up the flavour of the walk.

If you would like to see some photos go to the Hertfordshire Crimestoppers web page  and lokk under the heading 'The Chairman Goes the Extra Mile'.

Thanks to those who have donated money and its not too late if you have not yet done so.

The Coast to Coast was a walk that Alfred Wainwirght discovered and published in one of his guide books.

The money raised will go to support the charity Hertfordshire Crimestoppers, which operates an anonymous phoneline whereby people can call and pass on information about crime.
