Les Bourgs Hospice 30 30 Challenge
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am taking part in the 30 30 challenge. This requires the participants to undertake 30 bike rides of at least an hour in 30 days throughout the month of May, culminating with the Rock to Rocque, a ride around the island. To give this a little more substance, I am attempting to ride the distance from Paris to Madrid during these 30 days. That’s just over 650 miles or 1,050km. That equates to just under 22 miles a day, or at my speed of riding about 1.5hours a day.In order to fit this in round the day job & family I am getting up at 5.30 every day to cycle for an hour and then cycling to & from work in a vaguely circuitous manner to ensure that I get the miles in.
I thought this was going to be easy, since I’ve been commuting by bike pretty much every day now for a couple of years. However, the difference between 20 mins a day and 1.5hours a day on the bike is unbelievable, and really quite painful. If you really want to know about aches, bruises & blisters just ask.
Les Bourgs Hospice has helped thousands of terminally ill people and their families for 18 years. Any terminally ill person in Guernsey has been able to receive the highest level of care and apply to spend their days in a loving environment. An essential redevelopment and expansion project is now underway with a target of £4 million to enable outdated facilities to be replaced and a lack of space and privacy for patients and their families to be improved. The Hospice aims to improve the quality of life of people living with life-threatening illnesses, while supporting their families and carers.
