THERE are not many things that can truly have an earth-shattering effect on your life, but sadly, cancer is one of them.

That is why the Cancer Awareness Run to Turin, or CARTT for short, needs the support of as many members of the motor trade as possible.

The charity drive is the brainchild of MAHLE Aftermarket’s Regional Manager Peter Jones, whose wife Debbie is currently undergoing chemotherapy after originally being diagnosed with bowel cancer last year. “I don’t think anyone can be prepared for that moment when they, or their partner are told they have cancer,” says Peter. “I know that without the support of our family, friends and work colleagues, our lives would have been more difficult over the past 15 months.”

Peter has long harboured the wish to drive an old-shape Mini, a British motor industry icon, to Turin to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the “Italian Job”. Having now discovered at least four more members of the motor trade who are going through the same traumatic experience with cancer, he has decided that now is the right time to head off to Italy.

CARTT starts on Saturday 24th September, led by Peter and Andrew Tsang of Apec. Four cars are committed to the Run at present, but they would welcome as many as possible to make this a truly memorable trip and a major success for Bowel Cancer UK charity. The only stipulation is that it must be in an original Mini.

Alternatively, you can sponsor Peter’s effort by placingyour company logo/sticker on his car. And as Peter’s responsibilities for MAHLE extend from South West and south central England and South Wales to the Channel Islands and Republic of Ireland, he is hopeful of spreading his sponsorship net as far and wide as possible. We hope you can all give him your support.
