Story
Stop Press : MISSION ACCOMPLISHED -Landed at Punto Cires in Morocco at 10.44 am on July 10 after leaving Tarifa , Spain at 7.09am, 18 kms and 3 hours 35 mins earlier. Please see the updated photo gallery. The picture with the film crew is me being interviewed pre-swim by french TV .Philippe Croizon ,a limbless swimmer (an amazing man who swam english channel last year) was attempting the Gib straits the day after me and the film crew wanted some insights into what motivates long distance swimmers ! I swam the straits with Paul Metson a training mate from RADs-he's the other chap wearing a fez in the post swim portrait. A big thank you to all my generous donors. For those still wishing to donate to this worthy cause the swim may be over but the fund raising for the RNLI continues.......
The pre-swim story:Sometime during the week of July 9th when the weather gods say go,I will be greasing up and swimming the 12 odd miles from Europe to Africa under the watchful eye and guidance of Rafael from the Tarifa coast guard. For anyone who enjoys the open sea as much as I do, both on it and in it ,its good to know that there is a group of very dedicated and professional individuals that are always on hand to keep us safe at sea.
The Southend RNLI is currently running an appeal to raise the remaining funds for the Inshore Boathouse and Slipway project (http://www.southendlifeboat.org/) so I am hoping that my efforts across the the Gibraltar Strait matched by your generosity will go someway to meeting their funding goal.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
Thanks for supporting me and the Southend RNLI
Peter
