CYCLISTS FIGHTING CANCER enables children and young people living with cancer across the UK to regain their physical fitness and mental wellness by giving them new bikes, adapted trikes, tandems, other equipment and support. Physical activity is a key element in rehabilitation from treatments.

Story

Having lost over 6 Stone in weight by dieting and cycling, I now want to do something a bit special for my 60th year. What better than to raise money for a fantastic cause. Every penny that we raise will go to our nominated charity.

So the first challenge is a cycle ride around one of the largest lakes in Europe! Vätternrundan 300 km long, is the largest recreational bicycle ride in the world. The course follows the shoreline of the beautiful Lake Vättern (Sweden) and we will see the sun set and rise over the lake during the ride.  http://www.vatternrundan.se

Along with my son Daniel we will start at about 20.30 on a Friday evening in June and will then cycle through the night and finish at some point the following day. This will be a huge task and I am not sure when we will finish, but finish I will. Your donations will help me complete the ride

Cyclists Fighting Cancer is a charity whose purpose is to provide bikes, adapted tricycles and equipment to children and young people whose lives have been affected by cancer. (http://cyclistsfc.org.uk/)

Cyclists Fight Cancer (CFC) is a UK charity which provides a unique and highly effective way of helping kids with cancer.

They gift new bikes, tandems and specially adapted trikes to children and young people who have been affected by cancer throughout the UK.  The effects of the disease and its treatments in children are numerous; amputations, balance issues, physical weakness, coordination difficulties, lack of self-esteem are just a few of the most common side effects seen in many patients.

Exercise has been shown in numerous adult studies to be the single most effective way of improving both physical and mental wellness for people surviving cancer.  We encourage cycling as the best form of exercise based rehabilitation especially for children because it provides all these benefits in a low impact, fun, sociable and exciting way.

Cancer also causes massive disruption in families, therefore we also give bikes to their siblings and in many cases their parents in order that they can take part in an activity as a family once again after what can be years of hospitalisation and upheaval.
