Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I hope that you support me with my chosen charity.
In September 2015 I will be embarking on a challenging trek to climb to the highest point in Africa - Mount Kilimanjaro (5895m). The 7-day trek will be very challenging both physically & mentally, but personally I will be motivated to succeed knowing that all the funds that I raise will go towards supporting the 'Burns Project' at Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre (KCMC), located in Moshi, Northern Tanzania.
Being one of the poorest countries in the world, many families in Tanzania use kerosene to light their homes and use firewood for cooking. This all too often causes terrible accidents and debilitating injuries, resulting in thousands of men, women and especially children experiencing the emotional, physical and sometimes fatal consequences of burns every year.
Having visited & worked at KCMC several times over the past 10 years, and actively involved with the 'Burns Project' and Emergency Care at KCMC, I know first-hand how difficult it is for staff to deliver safe, effective, quality healthcare in a very challenging resource poor environment, a fact that becomes very evident when back working within a relatively resource rich organisation at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
I am passionate about helping those less fortunate than myself and this is made evident each time I visit KCMC, Tanzania to undertake voluntary work and I see the horrific burn injuries to children and adults, something that I rarely see within the UK.
Since 2011, I have been actively involved with the Burns Project; the aim of which is towards the development of a new Burns treatment facility at KCMC as well as providing training to improve the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of burns in Tanzania.
I hope that you will help me to make that small change to people that care as much as we do.
Thank you.
