24th August 2009

Well, we finally made it into Dublin last Friday night after 11 days and over 1150 miles on the road! Totally exhausted but glad to have to have done it. We saw some great scenery over the two weeks and I'm looking forward to going back to Ireland with Rachel at somepoint, but without the bike!

Thanks for all your interest and support

Pete

Pete and James have made it to Letterkenny, their last stop in Southern Ireland (although it's further north than Northern Ireland...) They're quite relieved to get there as Pete managed to break a spoke in his back wheel today. I'm not an expert in such things but I don't think that's good! They'll be taking it slowly to Derry (about 30 miles away) and hoping to find a bike repair shop when they get there.

It's been pretty wet today - I asked whether it had been raining all day, to which the answer was,"not all day. Just the morning. And the afternoon!"

Hopefully it'll be better tomorrow!

They're over half way now!

Pete and James are pretty tired (as you can imagine!), and Pete's been struggling with a bad knee. However, having got off to a rather soggy start the weather has been pretty good recently and they've been enjoying some fantastic scenery.

They're eating loads - apparently between them they ate today: 12 Wheatabix, 4 slices of toast, 1 loaf of bread, half a jar of jam, a tin of sardines, a tin of tuna, 500g spaghetti, a can of soup, 4 bananas, 4 apples, 2 ice creams and 24 Jaffa cakes... and Pete still reckons he's loosing weight!!

I think both James and Pete are looking forward to finishing, just 400 miles to go...

Pete and James arrived in Dublin yesterday evening, and started their epic journey this morning. They've had great weather and the scenery's been brilliant. They cycled 132 miles today and are 'slightly' tired, but they haven't had any rain (yet...!)

I'll be uploading photos as I get them, and have put my (somewhat limited) Excel skills to practice... check out the photos section!!

I'll also be adding more news as I get it to keep you posted.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

You may recall that back in 2004 I cycled John O Groats to Land's End with my friend James in order to raise money for the work of Tearfund... Well, this time we're going to cycle around Ireland! The whole lot; North and South; all 1150 miles of it in just over 10 days.

Again, we're raising money for Tearfund, this time specifically for their work in Sri Lanka. The recent intense fighting between Sri Lanka government forces and the Tamil Tigers has created a humanitarian disaster leaving thousands of people displaced from their homes in desperate need of food, water, clothing and shelter. The money we raise shall go towards helping alleviate this suffering and meeting these needs.

So, I'd be really grateful of any donation you can give!

Thanks so much for your support!

Pete
