Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I am running the Great South Run in order to raise money for BasicNeeds who help people like Fadila.
Fadila Nashiru was just three years old when she had her first episode of epilepsy, sending her babysitter into a panic. Her mother explained to us the effects it was to have on Fadila's life, "Whenever she had an attack, she had to stay at home. This meant no school, no play and no fun". Fadila was lucky enough to have a place at an infants school but epilepsy is ill understood in Tamale and the other children would not touch or eat with Fadila. She was unhappy and unable to understand the reasons for her illness or the reactions of those around her.
Fadila's father watched a BasicNeeds street drama about mental illness and eventually accepted their invitation to take Fadila to the Mental health clinic. She was finally correctly diagnosed and prescribed the appropriate medication.
Fadila is now very much improved and is able to attend school.
Thank you for your support !
