Story
Hello,
Please would you consider sponsoring me in aid of my work with the Foundation for Relief and Reconciliation in the Middle East (FRRME), which supports the unique work of Canon Andrew White, the Vicar of Baghdad?
“I hear you did a marathon? That’s cute.”
Perhaps that’s the power of suggestion, but once I’d seen those words on a t-shirt last year, my mere marathon didn’t seem like a big enough achievement. So here’s this year’s challenge:
Doing the triple: three marathons; three days; 10,000 feet of vertical climb.
We’re going to attempt the Jurassic Challenge, running 78.6 miles along the Dorset coast from Lyme Regis to Poole. It promises to be very beautiful, very hilly, very rough underfoot and really quite a long way. I can hardly contain my excitement at the prospect of trying to run a marathon on already aching legs and blistered feet. It’s the perfect challenge for 2010.
I will be running for the Foundation for Relief and Reconciliation in the Middle East (FRRME). We are one of the only Non Governmental Organisations delivering humanitarian relief in Baghdad, which we distribute through St George’s church and clinic, the latter of which treats over 2,000 patients every month.
In the face of increasing violence in Iraq, FRRME also has a programme of religious reconciliation, bringing together senior religious leaders from across the ethnic and sectarian divides. Canon Andrew White mediates at these meetings, encouraging the leaders of opposing factions to work together to use their enormous influence to quell the violence, to curb corruption and to appeal for peace.
It’s tough work but utterly essential and, as you will know, something that I’m extremely passionate about. I’d love it if you might help us along our way.
Thank you very much,
Peter Marsden
FRRME Director of Operations
