Story
Cancer affects many, many people either directly or indirectly. The risk of developing prostate cancer is high; it affects 1 in 8 of the UK male population with men over the age of 50 particularly affected. My dad and a close friend died of cancer and more recently a relative and another friend have undergone horrendous treatment for the disease.
When I saw this challenge on the Wigan Athletic website, I was interested because it links two of my interests, cycling and Wigan Athletic.
I enjoy cycling but had a couple of set-backs during 2014; I had a heart attack in the Spring and I injured my back in the autumn.
My friend, John Heeley, who is also a Latics supporter kept telling me that he would like get out his bike and to improve his fitness. When I mentioned this challenge to him, we both decided that we would be proud to represent Wigan Athletic on this ride and the improvements in our health and fitness would be beneficial to both.

Prostate Cancer affects 1 in 8 men in the UK, mainly affecting men over the age of 50 so it's something we should all be concerned about.
