Bucks Hospital Hike · 10 September 2022 ·

Since 1987 Scannappeal has raised over £19m for life saving and life changing medical equipment for hospitals in Bucks, particularly for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer patients. Every 10 minutes a patient in the local area is diagnosed or treated with equipment funded by Scannappeal.

Story

Congratulations, you are about to become a lifesaver!   Reading on and donating will also give you Hero status and a lifelong warm fuzzy feeling.  We understand that you don’t get something for nothing in this world, so let’s tell you about what the 3 of us (Phil, Nat and Carl) will be putting our bodies through to earn your respect and kind donation.  On the weekend of the 10th and 11th September, we will be doing the 50 mile gruelling hike across the hilly Chilterns to visit the 3 Bucks hospitals.  We are doing this to raise vital funds for Scannappeal who campaign tirelessly to provide lifesaving equipment to these hospitals which our great NHS simply couldn’t afford.  To help bring the story to life and confirm that you never know when you might need an intervention of life saving equipment, here is Phil’s story:

March 19th 2017 was the day life as I knew it and life as I wanted it to be, changed forever.  An 11cm Cancerous tumour on my right kidney forced me, my family and my friends to face into some pretty bleak realisations that our life together would never be the same.  There is no rule book on how to deal with a life ending illness, however it is fair to say that you have to learn very quickly. 18 months on and my Cancer had spread to my lungs!  In my darkest days, never once did I think “Why Me”?  My mindset has always been “Why Not”?  I could fill this page with so many sad thoughts, feelings, conversations and realisations, but the reality is - That’s just not me!  Instead, let me tell you how incredible YOU are, and why donating some of your hard earned money, will make the world of difference.  It’s not just people like me that benefit, it’s people like you, your family, your friends and your loved ones that could have a March 19th that I had - They just don’t know.  The more we raise for lifesaving equipment, the more our options and choices increase when faced with adversity.  Remember this:  You don’t have to be a doctor to save a life, that power is firmly in your hands.  Please be that person that makes a difference.  Thanks for reading and Keep Believing.

Phil, Nat and Carl.
